Michi Wiancko
Michi Wiancko
Forging a one-of-a-kind career path, violinist Michi Wiancko was described in Gramophone as an "alluring soloist with heightened expressive and violinistic gifts." She has given debut performances with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics, presented recitals in Carnegie’s Weill Hall and the Sydney Opera House, and regularly performs chamber music across the world. Recently, Naxos released Michi’s solo album of works by Émile Sauret, recorded in Toronto’s legendary Glenn Gould Studio at the CBC and chosen as Album of the Week on WQXR. Michi also composed an arrangement of Geminiani’s of “La Follia” Variations for String Orchestra, which received a glowing review in The New York Times (1/10/11) and appears on ECCO’s debut album. Michi is also a singer and song-writer for her band Kono Michi. The Strad describes the sound as “intriguing and exquisitely beautiful…music that breaks through the pop classical barrier.” In addition to the release of two new CDs, both available in iTunes and BandCamp, Kono Michi recently made her Le Poisson Rouge debut and performed a five-city UK tour. Michi holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Juilliard, where she studied with Robert Mann and Don Weilerstein, respectively.
